I’ve just finished reading a book called ‘Slave Girl’. Essentially, it’s about a girl who was sexually abused by her father from the age of 3, then put into care, where she’s sexually abused by the staff. She then lives a normal life for about a year, living with her boyfriend, until things get even worse: she sees an advertisement for a job as a nursery nurse in Amsterdam and gets it, but things aren’t as they appeared to be. She’s kidnapped and forced to work as a sex-slave, or ‘prostitute’, in Amsterdam’s Red Light District. That’s the basis of the story – there is of course much more to it.
It unveils some truly shocking truths about the infamous Red Light District; not only about prostitution, but also about the corruption of Amsterdam’s police force.
Definitely not the type of book I’d typically read, but definitely worth the 99p.
A few weeks ago I watched a film called Tomboy (one of the best I’ve ever seen) about a girl (9 or 10), who moves to another town, makes lots of new friends whom all think she is male – which is what she’s made them believe. Eventually people find out, and although the ending is unclear, it gives the impression that she is excepted for who she is.
For the most part, the film is happy, and extremely moving. And this song comes from a scene where the girl (as a boy) is happy, dancing with her friend.
I don’t know what it is about this song – especially from around 0:31. Let me know what you think.

Earlier on today, our butler took us on a walk through the Paddy fields. It was so beautiful!
It was so interesting watching the farmers who work there. They have little huts (#2) where they spend the afternoon, and temples where they prey; they even use the filter system (I think that’s what it’s called) to bathe..
